Only a Name
01:50
|
|||
I was flipping thru my magazines
Bending the pages, stressing the seams
Something made me take a second look
A proper noun from another book
It was only a name
But it tripped a nerve in my brain
Something from the past
But just how long is this gonna last?
Six weeks later i was on the go
Sat behind a man watching a show
I was looking on, when, to my surprise
Emma stone made me close my eyes
It was only a face
But something bout it didn’t take
So i don’t look back
If i do i’m gonna crack
If you got a problem you can’t talk about
If you know it’s all over without a doubt
And if you got someone that you can’t leave behind
Well you better work it out before you lose your mind
They wrapped me up in everything i love
But it’s hard to tell what i was thinking of
I always knew that bye and bye
You’d come back and see me eye to eye
But it was only a dream
Everything not as it seems
And it’s not quite right
But i hope i get to dream tonight

Let Us In
02:18
|
|||
If you got something you can hold with two hands
hold on, hold on, and take a chance
and if you want love you better give what you got
and don’t be afraid to just shoot your shot
well, i know what you’re gonna say
that “it sounds alright, but it don’t work that way”
but maybe i can change your mind by the end of the song
so pull yourself up off the floor
and come on down here- open up the door
let us in
you know it’s in the night
let us in to your life
just the other day i was feeling so low
listening to records thinking “i dunno”
but someone’s outside i hear the radio play
i’m lying on the carpet just wasting away
then i see the headlights
i rub my eyes and i stand upright
i didn’t get the point ‘til i heard them call
“please don’t go and make us wait
come on down here= open up the gate”
i was feeling so blue for so long
i don’t know what i would do
i’m bored to tears and i can barely sleep
i’m pacing bedroom on my dead end street
but i look out the window and what do i see
just a couple of shadows and they’re calling to me

You Beat Me to It
02:37
|
|||
Oh, lonely hearts
Beating on and on into the dark
We do our best but we can’t dull the pain
You can guess but you’ll never know
The naked thoughts of the other role
All the same, i still wonder why
We were outta time
I made a plan but i changed my mind
Still i knew, we couldn’t make it through it
You beat me to it
I cried ‘til i hurt
To lift my head, for what it’s worth
I resigned to let my lover leave
I was listening to “cinnamon girl”
“a dreamer of pictures” in a cold world
On the night you called to say goodbye
It’s strange but it’s real
As the seasons pass what the days reveal
In my mind i feel better now than grave
The cynic knows it won’t take much time
To find another but it’s a fine line
Well next time i hope i make the grade

Dry Your Eyes
02:45
|
|||
I think that was the last train
All the people waiting are gone
Take my hand and we can talk
About what’s going wrong
And if it takes all night
It’s ok its alright
You’re calling out for some help
You know i won’t deny
And baby if you need to cry
I’ll dry your eyes
Just tell me more
Show me what the chords are
And i’ll play while you whistle a tune
If you break some strings i don’t mind
Just show me what to do
You don’t need to simplify
Not for the sake of my pride
Just lay it out grim and bare
I’ll give my best reply
And baby if you need to cry
I’ll dry your eyes
Just show me more
I know a bar since we’re up all night
Just gotta pay a cover
But if it’s time to say goodbye
All you need to do is remember
Just make the call
I’m on the line
I’m at your door
In no time’s time
When you sleep alone
You’re up all night
The pillowcase ain’t doing it right
Baby if you need to cry

Memory Man
03:19
|
|||
When i get a bad idea I wanna call you girl
but i don’t know what you got in your heart
well i put your picture away
but i maybe i should tear it apart
i keep it hidden somewhere dark
do you think about me when you’re all alone?
do you wanna reach out for the telephone?
well i miss you by my side
i guess i’m better off on my own
but i loved you, like i loved no one
i’m the memory man
i dont know what i want
i’m the memory man
i’m lost in my thoughts
i’m the memory man
and i’m thinking bout what used to be
if you want you can drop me a line
i still think about you from time to time
when i look into her eyes
i’m somewhere else in my mind
i’m traveling through space and time
it’s hard to decide which feeling
to trust or deny
are you concealing the way you feel inside?
tell me that you want me

Man From the Company
03:06
|
|||
It’s a cheerful kind of gray in the company town
If you choose to stay i’ll be happy to show you around
Life can change in the blink of an eye
If you stay close to me you’ll get along alright
Idle hands are a devil in disguise
So what do you say? will you come cross the line
Oh lord! we’re shutdown, you see we’re dying
The union wants beter indeed my boy
We need a man for the company
Look out marvin, it’s the mailman coming to deliver
If he’s bringing good news, well it’s better late than never
Right on time and without delay
The business needs a little welfare from the state
The workers in town are bleeding us dry
The picket demands bring a tear to my eye
Guys like you and me have been made a target
I’d pour us a drink but you’ve got work in the morning
Pity the soul who knows not the health
In a good days work- it’s the greatest kind of wealth
The greed of the poor always gives me pause
They spit in your face, but what is the cause?

Dark Heath
02:42
|
|||
Have you ever seen a face
That you couldn’t deny
Have you ever had the common sense
To know better than to try
If i could see you better
I wouldn’t have to ache
You can read me like a baseball card
Looking back you’ve gone opaque
Indecision
False pride
No remorse
No advice
The dark heath swallows me whole
As dim as the candle burns
As dark surrounds the fire
Though the wick is winding down
The flame burns on ever brighter
I am still the match
You only have to strike
So rip me off and bend me back
Come on baby wont you shine a light
It is not the same
I become destroyed
Staring back like a vacant house
You rule my heart like a feudal lord
Will you raise the plot
Or fill your hands with ash
You might as well knock me down
Might as well just take the cash

Without Violence
03:45
|
|||
To tell the truth
I’ve run my race
The saddles empty, i lose my pace
There’s a quiet sadness sadness
There’s a mild madness in turn
Looking for proof?
I tore it up
I break my fingers to interrupt
You make it easy
You make it easy to lie
Without violence
The ether waits in silence
And eager hands grapple for the lathe
Final bias
Shrivels in defiance
The working day is vacant once again
Outside the lines
And weak with grief
I steal away but i’m no thief
In the golden hour
It was never ours to share
In the heath
The sky is stark
My eyelids flutter like a meadowlark
You make it easy
You make it easy to fly

Make My Misery
03:03
|
|||
No, its not right
But you pull me closer just to twist the knife
And no, you're not coming home
It breaks my heart to watch you go
There's a thorn in my side
I twist and turn right through the night
All i got is my pride there's no one to blame
Pass to my your loving cup
Slake my thirst before i throw it up
Im lost to myself and now
I can hardly stand to think about
The interiors of my life
I'm desperate for relief at times
I've wasted so many hours and i'm going insane
But girl
You've got that hold on me
And i can't seem to break free
And i make my misery
When i cry
I dont make a sound
I'm living with the dread of getting shot down this has to end now

Alight Me Now
03:31
|
|||
If we were in love
Well we’d be lovers now
If i get the chance
I’d like to show you how
I’ve been waiting so long to see
You back in our old town green
I reckon you’ll deliver me in to the light
I was afraid
That it’s been too long
And it’s alright
If you wanna carry on alone
But if you got a car, lets hit the road
Like we did those years ago
Will we make it, can we take it to the other side?
Alight me now
You got to choose
I’ve paid my dues
I wouldn’t mind
Taking the long way back
And besides
I wanna tell you that sometimes
I look back on what could’ve been
If you feel the same i’d like to see
Us together, i think that we could do alright
Oh, in the darkened days
I’ll stand by your side
While you iight the way
Now i got to fight
To make it for real
Cuz time passes by and people change
In the blink of an eye there’s butterfly wings
Alight my finger and take me into the night
